A gut remodel of an 18th century log house, the project calls for extensive structural, envelope, system, and finish re-work.
The clients are pursuing a deep energy retrofit, in order to increase building performance, as well as decrease grid reliance. This project involves energy modeling in Diva, energy monitoring using HOBO loggers, blower door testing and thermal imaging, material geography mapping, and dendrochronology studies to allow the formation of a comprehensive understanding of the climatic functioning of the houses.
With equal commitment to honoring the unique historic fabric of the home, increased livability and modernization of the interior, and pursuing high performance envelope strategies, this project promises to yield both a great result for the client as well as excellent research and documentation opportunities.
Energy modeling for this project represents a collaboration between Runcible Studios, Studio Weissman, and Urbain DRC, and will be presented at the ICOMOS General Assembly and Scientific Symposium in Florence, Italy in Fall 2014.
This project is currently under construction.
