A sweet moment of "old meets new" in a recent project. Many of our projects are renovations, as we work in cities with lots of old housing stock, and one of our biggest challenges is figuring out how to interact with existing architectural and construction elements.
We want the old and new to blend seamlessly - but - this is important - that doesn't mean we mimic, copy, or imitate the old. It *does* mean that we complement, contrast, harmonize with, dance with, be inspired by, and celebrate the old.
Here, new celery green cabinets and old red bricks, new white soapstone and old white balusters, and new brass handles and old pine floors work together to tell the story of 100 years of living in this little house. Finding beautiful and clever ways to support the realities of life, while being inspired by our clients and what the building is telling us: that's our calling card!
This little moment at our newly completed renovation in JP is a perfect example of that: with a spot for mail to land, drawers for the stuff of life, and a pull out trash container converted to hold dog food, this piece of cabinetry in the kitchen is earning its keep.
